Introduction Julian is an artist and Tony is a consultant. We spend our working lives talking to people who work in organisations about the issue of change. Several months ago this provoked us to ask some fundamental questions and begin exploring the subject using a process developed by Julian: Visual Dialogue, to develop a more honest approach to change in organisations. Visual Dialogue is a simple and effective process of creating and using drawings and pictures to facilitate dialogue. So much conversation around "change" is frustrating and deeply flawed. On the one hand, there is unprecedented need for change in our world. On the other hand, no one seems to be able to get a grip on it. False claims, meaningless vocabularies, avoidance of undiscussable issues, buried emotion and broken promises have become the norm. We have been talking about these ideas and what they mean to us. We have developed a picture that captures our thinking to date and now invite you to join us in our Visual Dialogue. We would like to share with you our picture, "Voice Patterns", and provisional propositions. And then welcome your feedback and contribution to a wider developing dialogue emerging out of some questions about change... |
