Case study: Visual Dialogue for team building and communication
Client: NHS Service Improvement Facilitators
“We wanted to find a way to document our achievements and tell our story to others – what is it we really do”
Problem:
- We have a formal description of what we do, but we don’t feel significant
- We can’t make change if we can’t document it
- It’s difficult to focus, I feel overwhelmed, stuck
- Frustrated that I haven’t made an impact. What do I do to make change happen?
- It’s hard to show the impact of what we do, it’s so intangible

Delta7 facilitated a one-day workshop with the team, drawing out what was important, what mattered, what they wanted to share with others, developing the picture over a two week period. The finished picture was used in presentations and informal conversations to tell the story and stimulate discussion.
Outcome:
“The reception to the Big Picture has been hugely positive. At the National Forum where we presented it everybody was very envious and wanted a similar picture themselves. It gave us a way to talk about what we did rather than just using case studies – a really dynamic tool that stimulated lots of discussion.
It had a huge benefit in terms of team building and the team felt like they had ownership of the product. It helped to improve the clarity of communication with clinical teams about what it was that we did.
Probably the most effective part was having somebody reflect back your discussion and say, ‘I think this is what I’m hearing you say’ – allowing you to say, ‘YES that’s exactly what it feels like’.
